# How to Create a WhatsApp Template (Standard layout)?

### Steps  <a href="#navigate-to-the-templates-page" id="navigate-to-the-templates-page"></a>

1. Begin by navigating to the templates page. Click on **Create WhatsApp Template.**
2. Enter template name
3. **Choose type -** Select the type as **Standard.**
4. **Choose category**\
   For category, you can choose between [**Utility**](https://docs.quickreply.ai/product-modules/templates/whatsapp-templates/how-tos/create-templates/broken-reference) (which is suitable for sending notifications) or [**Marketing**](https://docs.quickreply.ai/product-modules/templates/whatsapp-templates/how-tos/create-templates/broken-reference) (which is suitable for promotional content)

   <div data-gb-custom-block data-tag="hint" data-style="info" class="hint hint-info"><p>Note: For <a href="../../../../../broadcasts/creating-a-broadcast#promotional"><strong>Promotional Broadcasts</strong></a>, the <strong>Marketing</strong> category is the most appropriate.</p></div>
5. **Choose language**\
   Choose a language that aligns with the content of the Template Message. Make sure the content of the Template Message matches the selected language. The template will be rejected if the content is in a different language or a mixture of languages that includes both the selected language and another.

   **For example:**

   If you selected Spanish, but your content is in English, or the content is a mixture of languages containing both Spanish and English, your template might get rejected.
6. After selecting your preferences, click on **Create Template**
7. **Add media header -** On the template editor page, you will have the option to include an [image, document, or video](https://docs.quickreply.ai/overview/messaging-channels/whatsapp/concepts#supported-media-types) with the template. For this example, select image from the dropdown.
8. **Enter message body -** Enter the message you want to send to the users inside the message body, insert emoji, format text (bold, italics, strikethrough, code), and include variables to personalize the template while using it in broadcasts/campaigns/chat.  To add dynamic data to personalize template messages click on <mark style="background-color:green;">"+ Add Variable"</mark> when filling message body.
9. **Add footer text** - While it's not mandatory, we recommend including the text ***`"Reply with 'UNSUB' to unsubscribe"`*** in the footer section for ease of unsubscribing.
10. **Add buttons** - You can also [add buttons](https://docs.quickreply.ai/product-modules/templates/whatsapp-templates/how-tos/create-templates/how-to-add-buttons-in-whatsapp-templates) that prompt user actions when clicked. &#x20;
    1. You can add upto 10 buttons (CTAs or QuickReply).
    2. You can add a maximum of 2 Website and 1 Call button in a standard template.
11. Add the sample values for text, media etc.&#x20;

    <div data-gb-custom-block data-tag="hint" data-style="info" class="hint hint-info"><p>You should provide specific and meaningful values for the variables you have added in both the message body, URL or media.</p><p>These sample values mustn't be placeholders or meaningless, as <strong>using dummy values may result in the rejection of your templates</strong>.</p></div>
12. 13. Once submitted, the Template will be applied and will appear in the list in <img src="https://1325107618-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FePPO97Ju334NhhCzTEZP%2Fuploads%2FB8zIiB1bj3VebtEGExWn%2Fimage.png?alt=media&#x26;token=e73388b6-9ae4-48f0-bbe7-3139ff096b8f" alt="Pending" data-size="line"> status.
14. You can check the approval status later on the broadcasts panel. Usually, Template Approval is quick, but sometimes it can take 1-2 days too.&#x20;
15. Template statuses are auto-synced at a set interval. To get the latest status early, [sync-templates](https://docs.quickreply.ai/product-modules/templates/whatsapp-templates/how-tos/sync-templates "mention") and check the latest status.

**Call CTA button**

When the "**Call**" button is clicked, it triggers a phone call action on the user's smartphone dialer.

On the other hand, clicking the "**Website**" button redirects users to a specific landing page or URL.

**Choosing the website button type**

* **Link Tracked Buttons (recommended)**
  * In this type, we track all link clicks that the user does when the template is used in a broadcast/campaign.
  * The link for the button is to be provided while sending the template to the user.

* **Dynamic URL**

  * This allows you to secure approval for a URL prefix with a variable, enabling you to modify the landing page URL even after the prefix has been approved.
  * Note - we do not track link clicks for this button type.

you can use any URL starting with the approved prefix, such as:

* **Static URL**
  * Alternatively, you can select the Static URL option from the dropdown menu if you don't plan to change it later.
  * Remember to add UTM Parameters in the Static Links if you choose this option
