Do Not Disturb (DND) Hours

Overview

The Do Not Disturb (DND) Hours feature allows you to control when WhatsApp messages from your automated journeys are delivered. By setting DND windows, you can ensure that customers do not receive messages late at night or during sensitive hours- improving customer experience, maintaining compliance, and safeguarding your brand reputation.


Why Use DND?

  • Respect customer time: Prevents sending messages at odd hours (e.g., midnight reminders).

  • Boost engagement: Messages sent during active hours are more likely to be opened.

  • Stay compliant: Meets regional messaging regulations.

  • Improve brand perception: Reduces annoyance and opt-outs.


How DND Works

  1. Configuration in Settings

    • Go to Settings → New UI settings → Sending preferences → DND Hours.

    • Click on Add DND hours

    • Enable DND with the toggle switch.

    • Create one or more time slots (daily or specific days).

    • Define start and end times.

    • Note: If your DND window crosses midnight, the end time will apply to the next day.

  2. Journey-level Control

    • Open Journeys → Select Journey → Workflow.

    • Toggle Follow DND Hours ON or OFF for that journey.

    • By default, DND is OFF until you configure slots. If no slots are active, the toggle will be greyed out.

  3. Message Handling

    • If a message is triggered during DND hours, it will be delayed until the DND window ends.

    • DND is checked at both the trigger and wait node levels.

    • Authentication/time-sensitive messages (e.g., OTPs) are not affected.

    • DND does not apply to broadcasts or 1-on-1 live chats.


Things to Know Before Using DND

  • DND works based on the recipient’s local time zone (calculated from country code).

  • If you delete all DND slots, previously saved ON/OFF states in journeys are preserved.

  • You can configure multiple DND slots (e.g., weekday vs. weekend).


Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q. My DND toggle is greyed out in a journey. A. Configure at least one DND slot in Settings first.

Q. What happens if a trigger occurs at 10 PM (during DND)? A. The journey pauses and resumes after DND ends, continuing from the next wait node.

Q. Do broadcasts or live chat messages respect DND? A. No, DND applies only to automated journeys.
